Did you know that toe fungus is the most common nail disease among Americans and that an estimated 14 percent of 100 million people have toe fungus?
We know it isn’t the prettiest topic to talk about, but with toe fungus impacting so many of us, you must know your options when it comes to treatment.
At the Foot and Ankle Center of Arizona, we offer the best treatment options for toe fungus which includes our innovative laser treatment along with the use of Tolcylen.
What is Toe Fungus?
This is an uncomfortable nail infection caused by fungi such as yeast or mold. The most common forms of toe fungus include Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophyte, and Candida albicans.
Our toenails’ plates range from 0.25-1 mm in size. They are hard, slightly elastic, convex shaped, and translucent. Toenails are made of 40-50 layers of dead, flattened, and keratinized cells.
The fungus can live in a layer of the dead skin around the nail, in the nail, and even under the nail. Toe fungus causes discolored thickened, brittle, and crumbly nails. It can also cause pain when walking or wearing shoes. We can also mention here that the nail might detach and fall if it’s not treated.
Laser Toenail Fungus Therapy Treatment
Our FDA approved Laser Toenail Fungus Therapy treatment fights off toe fungus by heating the tissue beneath the toenail to a high enough temperature where the fungus can no longer survive.
In fact, this is one of a limited number of laser treatments to treat fungal toenails that have been cleared by the FDA.
Unlike other treatment options, our laser therapy is painless, no anesthesia is required. And there is zero downtime after the treatment. Many of our patients resume their exercise routine that very day.
The laser treatment is fast, taking only about 30 minutes each session. It is also effective, with most patients usually only needing one treatment. During the treatment, patients can feel warmth, but 80 percent of our patients see improvement in the appearance of their toenails after just one treatment. Below are images that prove the efficacy of this treatment.
