A couple of months ago, I suddenly experienced "foot drop." It probably wasn't quite as sudden as it seemed, but it felt that way. I went to a spine and sports doc I had been to before and she was very concerned. I couldn't flex my right foot or lift my toes at all. For someone who tries to be at least somewhat athletic, this is a huge setback. I thought it might be a spinal nerve issue, hence the appointment with the first doc. She ordered 3 MRIs and found that it was a compressed nerve (peroneal) in the side of my knee that ran down into my foot. She referred me to Dr. DiNucci. He reviewed the MRI and concurred that it was a compressed nerve, but as a precaution sent me back to my spinal doc for an electric impulse test, which she had also recommended. (These are NOT pleasant). That confirmed the diagnosis for everyone. Dr. DiNucci scheduled me for nerve decompression surgery pretty quickly. It was a quick outpatient procedure at a surgical center. I had to wear a boot for a while, but otherwise, it was pretty simple. Less than 6 weeks after surgery, I was able to walk pretty normally again and I even started back to the gym. I thought it was going to take many, many months just to get where I am now -- right at 2 months post-op. I had my final follow up last week with Dr. DiNucci and he was at least as excited as I was about my progress. I've read some of the other less than flattering reviews, but that was not my experience at all. I found him to be considerate and concerned -- he IS a medical professional and his demeanor reflects that. I was confident I was in good hands, both from the recommendation from a doctor I trust very much and from my own personal interaction with Dr. D. As for the outcome, I couldn't be more pleased -- or relieved! I know google can be a friend or a foe, and I googled a LOT about this condition. I was really afraid that I would be one of those unlucky ones who never regained full use of their foot. I am, thankfully, on the other end of the spectrum. I'm not quite 100 percent yet, but I can see it from here. To have regained as much function as I have in only two months is way beyond what I could have hoped. I was quite correct to put myself in Dr. DiNucci's hands. He did as perfect a job as any surgeon can do and I am very grateful for that! Also, I have to give a shout-out to his staff -- everyone I dealt with was amazing! I hope I don't have to deal with anything like this again, but if I do, I know a great doctor!
