Have you experienced a significant injury your foot and ankle making normal movement impossible? You may require surgery for Achilles tendon rupture. Surgical Procedure

Your surgeon will begin by positioning the back of the ankle for optimum visibility. An anesthetic will be provided to ensure you experience no pain during the course of the procedure. Before the incision is made your surgeon will properly sterilize the surgical site.

After the area is sterilized your surgeon will make an incision to the back of the ankle to grant access to the ruptured tendon. The underlying area will be examined and special instruments will be utilized to bridge the pieces of destroyed tendon. The ends of the tendon will be stitched together to set the healing process in motion.

Following Surgery

The incision will finally be closed using sutures or surgical staples and the foot will be carefully bandaged. Your foot will require a cast for 4-8 weeks. The surgeon will provide post-operative instructions which mainly stipulate that you should avoid placing any weight on the injury.

In some cases physical therapy is required to restore the full function of the foot. Following treatment, you may resume normal activities anywhere between a period of 4-6 months.

Do you have a serious ankle injury that resulted in a fracture?

You may require surgery.

Ankle fracture surgery is a straightforward procedure designed to repair your ankle following serious injury. Specifically, the procedure is used to correct a fracture of the Fibula or Tibia. Healing of the ankle is made possible by a stable internal fixation screwed onto the broken bone. The fixation plate will keep the fractured portion of bone aligned to properly heal in a process that only takes a few weeks.

Immediately following your ankle fracture surgery, our doctor will advise you to avoid placing any weight on the injured foot for 3-10 weeks. You will eventually be required to wear a cast or a boot.  In some cases additional physical therapy may be required before normal use of the ankle is restored.
